SURF Update

The SURF committee has been reaching out to homeowners, and in true Strathmere style, the response is often, "there's probably someone else who needs it more." When you have walls and floors ripped out, when you see Servpro more than you see your family, and when your insurance company still hasn't told you what they'll be sending you, YOU need some help.
Please help others by donating to SURF via the Strathmere United Methodist Church, Box 49, Strathmere 08248. AND, get in that last tax deduction for the year!

More from SURF: More than 20 homeowners have received help in the form of cash, gift cards and almost more importantly, visits from others bearing hot meals, some expertise and advice on remediation, and others with a shoulder to lean on and a cup of coffee to share while listening. One recipient said he has never felt so connected in town-with strangers he now considers friends. And that's what it's all about. Please help by donating to SURF. The committee has not heard of one homeowner who has received confirmation from his/her insurance company of how their claim will be settled-meanwhile mold doesn't wait and people need to be able to live in their homes.

SIA Newsletter 12 09 2012 - Mayor Palombo and Santa Visit Strathmere!

To All Strathmere and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,

We had two important visitors to Strathmere yesterday - Mayor Rich Palombo and Santa Claus.

***************************************

Yesterday morning almost 50 people attended a Town Meeting where Mayor Palombo and Township Engineer Paul Dietrich discussed numerous subjects, mostly related to clean-up and restoration resulting from the "Sandy" storm.

Strathmere folks very much appreciated the session.
********************************************************
In the evening, we had our annual Strathmere Christmas Party. If you missed it - you missed another great one!
The food was wonderful and well over 130 Strathmere neighbors were in attendance. A great time was had by all!
Santa arrived and spent quality time with each child. If you'd like a full-size copy of any of these pictures, reply to this newsletter sia6@comcast.net  and tell us the picture(s) you'd like (apologies if the red-eye correction changed your eyes).
Head Cook Ed (with Lyn) puts together the great meal.

Then Santa arrived!

And Santa's Elves!

Our thanks to the Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company and the SIA for sponsoring the party, to those who set up and decorated the Firehouse, to Ed and Louise Andress for their help, and especially to Ed and Lyn Tettemer and Donna Diefenderfer, for all their work preparing for and cooking for the party and for helping Santa with gifts, and of course to Santa himself!
Have a great Holiday Season everyone!!!

Schiavo Library: December 2012 Newsletter

Schiavo Library: December 2012 Newsletter

Phone Service:
Unfortunately, we have not had any phone service at the library since the storm. We apologize if you have been trying to get in touch or left messages for us. Hopefully, the problem will be resolved soon.

Disaster Relief:
If you need any information about disaster relief or FEMA, our library is the place to come. We have been visited many times by FEMA representatives. Part of their job is to disseminate information. The latest document from FEMA deals with how to get rid of mold. Their best tip is “When in doubt, throw it out!” Good advice.

Decemcer Movie Matinees:
This month we will have our movie matinees on Friday and Saturday afternoons at 1:00pm. Friday will feature holiday favorites for grownups. For Saturday we have a great selection of children’s movies. Bring in the kids and let them choose a favorite! Remember, you can also check out a DVD or VHS tape!

Great Holiday Reads:

Help Needed:
We would like to start a knitting club at the library, especially for the winter months. If you can help in any way or have any suggestions for us, please email. Thanks!
