Just a reminder - the library will be closed for the first two weeks of February again this year. This will provide needed maintenance time. We will be reopening on February 16th with our regular schedule. 
  
February: Library Lovers’ Month If you love your local library, show it! Write notes of gratitude to your local librarian or maybe even better - write your local politicians and tell them how important our libraries are to everyone! Or just stop in and enjoy our lovely Library. You can still Donate (Books, DVD’s, VHS Tapes or Money) all donations are appreciated.

Virtual Poetry Night:
Please go on our Facebook page and check if you will be attending. Echezonachukwu Nduka, poet and pianist, is the author of Chrysanthemums for Wide-eyed Ghosts (2018) and Waterman (2020). He lives in New Jersey. To learn more about him, visit his website here - https://www.artnduka.com/
We will be going LIVE or Zoom through Facebook. I will fill in more details as we get closer. Please invite and share with your Friends. Thank you. Event is February 25th (Thursday) at 6pm

Used Book Sale:
Our 11th annual “Welcome Summer” Used Book Sale is going to be on our Facebook page, LIVE. The sale continues until we get word, we can open the building again. We have TONS of books! Great Prices.  Visit: www.facebook.com/schiavolibrary

Library 11th Anniversary:
We are celebrating  “11great years here at the Schiavo Library!
Stop by Thursday, June 25th (10am-4pm)
Celebrate with us, we will have a table of snacks and water (outside). We would love to take your picture, so smile when you stop by.                                                      

Summer Programs & Events Preview:
Our summer storytime programs will begin on Thursday, June 11th.  Storytime is now offered Tues/Thurs.  10:30am-11:00am via online through our Facebook page LIVE.  Visit: www.facebook.com/schiavolibrary
All of our other programs including the Turtle Program, due to the way new changes have to be made are currently cancelled.  We will continue to bring you updates if anything changes. 
The Librarians will be available, more regularly Tuesday-Saturday 10-4pm beginning June 16th. The Library building will remain closed to public however, we are still here available to serve in any way we can. 

Library News:        
Due to the changes of Covid-19.  We are bringing the library to you in more of a technical/online way.  We are going to be bringing you the Book Sale, and Storytime online LIVE.  We are working to bring our catalog online as well.  In the meantime you can always call the library at 609-486-6265, or email us at info@strathmerelibrary.org We would be more than happy to help assist in finding any books and doing curbside assistance.  Membership Renewals, are greatly accepted and appreciated.

News:
Due to the Covid-19, we are closed until further notice.  I will pop in to the library from time to time to collect any books placed in book drop, you can email for renewals (info@strathmerelibrary.org), I can take care of renewals remotely.  If you are aware of any late fees or membership renewals, please place in an envelope in the Book Drop box. 

Mahjong Lessons:
Mahjong is suspended at this time.  However, when we are able to re-open again, Mahjong can still be played Wednesdays if, there are players interested and want to get together.  We are more than happy to have you play here at the Library, we have Mahjong tile sets, and tables.  If you are interested, please call the library (609 486-6265).

Save the dates:
Our Annual Memorial Day Used Book Sale is scheduled for May 22nd – June 20th. We have been taking in books all winter long, books are filling up the library.

It’s a light month for announcements, not much happening.   Stay safe everyone, we hope to see you all back again soon!  In good health!

Winter Challenges
Happy New Year, New Decade! To everyone. We are still here, if you are looking for something to do we got you covered, you can listen to music, do a puzzle, play some board games, read up on some of our latest titles. So much available stop on in. The Library is bright and cheerful and warm, and we love catching up with our patrons.


Food Collection Box
Annually, we are still collecting food for the Local food banks. Please take a moment to go through your pantry and see what you can contribute.


Mahjong
Mahjong continues here at the library. Wednesday is the usual day for play. Lessons can also be scheduled with Wendy Dougherty. Call for any changes or updates or to schedule lessons (609 486-6265).


Winter Movie Matinees – Fridays1:00pm
Our Movie Matinees will continue throughout the winter on Thursday afternoons.

Looking ahead the Schedule for February
The Library will closed during the slow winter. We will be Closed in February – from Feb. 4th until Feb. 15th. Newsletter Daylight Savings – Reminder 
Reminder November 3rd the Clocks get reset back 1 hour.

Vote Here: Nov. 6th
Again this year voters in Strathmere will be using the library instead of the fire hall. Voting is here from 6 am to 8 pm. The library is open for Voting ONLY but closed for library business that day

Revised Check-out Periods
For the winter we will extend check-out periods for books (and audiobooks) to 30 days and for DVDs to 14 days. Don’t forget: you can always renew by phone or email.

Mahjong
Continues here at the library, Usually on Wenesdays at 10:00am. Anyone is welcome. Contact the Library if you are New and would like to set up a lesson time with her. For more Information contact the Library: 609-486-6265

Thanksgiving Hours
The library will be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday (11/28nd) and Friday (11/29th). Library will be open on Saturday with normal hours 10am-4pm.

Pay it Forward (Give Back):
This Holiday Season, we have two great opportunities to give back to those in need and who often get overlooked during this time of the year. We will be accepting gently used Coats, Hats, Scarves, Gloves, Socks for Children and Adults to be sent as part of a Code Blue project this Winter. We are also making care sets part of our Adopt a Grandparent program, these packages will be delivered to nursing homes and shelters and help spread some cheer. The sets are $15 each stop by library fill out form, the goal is to reach as many as possible by Nov 30th.

Used Book Sale: 
Our Tenth annual end of summer book sale is happening now! Library hours will remain 10-4pm until the end of September. Stop on in - the sale goes on until the end of September. Lots of great Books still left.

September News:
September is “Amnesty Month.” NO FINES are collected for overdue books!
September returns to normal off-season hours – NO Thursday evening hours.
*Beginning October library hours will go back to (Tuesday – Friday 8:30-2:30, and Saturdays 10-4)
* MahJong continues here this fall – times vary, call the library for more information.


End of Summer Recap:
We had a great Storytime (21 attended) and Lego Club (19 attended) this summer. Our Summer reading program was a great success thank you all who participated (11 completed program). We had our summer family activities which are always so much fun, and you guys make it special. Family Scavenger Hunt (15 attended). It was an awesome time. Family Bingo Night (4 attended). Mahjong – was also played here a few times this month.

Thank you all for a wonderful Summer, we look forward to seeing you again next year! Have a great school year kid’s – looking forward to next year’s Reading program.

Summer Fun Highlights

The “Summer kickoff” was won by Rose Rhine. Congratulations!!

We still have another “Kids Summer Fun” basket currently raffling, Drawing is August 15th tickets $1 ea.

Summer Hours & Summer Programs:           
Our summer hours are here (Note: 4th of July we are CLSOED). We’ll be open additional hours on Thursdays from 10 am to 8 pm. Children’s programs start on July 2nd and our special family events (SignUp):

*Wetlands Terrapin Release Program - July 11th @ 6:00pm. (Please join us rain or shine!)
*Wildlife Conservation Film (Shark Week) – July 17th @6:00pm
*Bird –Nature Walk Program – July 18th @6pm (Meet by Statepark, end of Strathmere Beach)
*HorseShoe Crab Program – July 25th @ 6:00pm. (Rain or Shine inside Library)


Children’s Summer Programs:
Storybook Time is on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 10:30 (all ages welcome) and LEGO club is right after that. We have a summer reading program, “Catch a Dragon by the tale” and a children’s drawing contest. Special Prizes if you complete Reading Form.  Teens Bookmark and T-shirt Contest. Stop in for more information on these. We have a “Makerspace Table” set up for crafts and science activities - available all day.

Used Book Sale:
Our “Welcome Summer” used book sale was a big hit as usual.  We had 327 people visit the library to browse and buy. Our total profit was $564.30. We really appreciate the book donations all year long. Thank you!

Used Book Sale:
Our 10th annual “Welcome Summer” Used Book Sale is going strong. The sale continues until at least June 15th. Stop in; we have TONS of books left! Great Prices.  June 11th will begin our “Fill a Bag for $2” sale.

Library 10th Anniversary:
We are celebrating  “10great years here at the Schiavo Library! Stop in week of June 25th – we will be celebrating all week with special gifts for the first ten visitors throughout the week. And celebrating with cupcakes on Thursday, June 27th All day.
                                               
Summer Programs & Events Preview:
Our summer storytime programs will begin on July 2nd.  Storytime is now offered Tues/Thurs. 
For Teens, we have a BookMark Contest as well as a T-Shirt contest.
Adults, we have Mahjong! They will continue to meet every Wednesday morning.  Our late Night evenings will begin every Thursday June 13th – Aug 29th

· Wildlife Conservation Film Festival “Summer Series”  Grab a flyer for Dates starting June 13th @6pm. 
· WETLANDS TRAVELING TURTLES & TERRAPIN RELEASE: July 11th 6:00pm (Parking Lot)
· BIRD Nature Walk– July 18th Program starts at 6pm, try to arrive at least 10-15 min prior.  Meeting at the North end of Strathmere, near Statepark.  Will be meeting with Hosts Debbie Rivel & the Conserve Wildlife NJ to take a tour on beach.  Bring Binoculars, and cameras.  (Sign up at the Library)
· HORSESHOE CRAB – July 25th Program starts 6pm,  come learn about these magnificent creatures and why they are important to our wildlife, especially in our area.  RARE old Dinosaur! Meet at the Library inside.  (Sign up at the Library)                                                     
· FAMILY TEAM SCAVENGER HUNT: August 1st  6:00pm (Sign up at the Library)
· FAMILY BINGO NIGHT: August 15th 6:00pm (Sign up at the Library)


Library News:         
Be on the lookout this Summer we will be adding YA – Audio Books to our collection as well as we will be adding YA - Playaway readers (Just need a set of headphones/earplugs plug in and play)

 Our Summer Raffle is underway, “Summer Kick-off” Basket, $1 a ticket.  Drawing ends June 15th. 

  Also, we are hosting a Book Signing for “One Loose String” by: Christine Scarpa  June 20th @ 5pm.

Mahjong Lessons / Games:
We are continuing with mahjong lessons on Wednesdays. Call or email the library: we need your phone number and email address so that Wendy can get in touch with you in case of changes.

Summer Program (sneak peek):
This summer some favorites – Story hour (Will now be offered on Tuesdays and Thursday Mornings), LEGO club, and Terrapin Release Program, Makerspace Table that will be available at all times (for crafts and science experiments) and WII game system for active indoor fun (especially on those rainy days) and Movie Nights. Summer Reading Program Theme “Dragons”. ~ Stay Tuned!

News Events:
Save the Date! May 18 th (Saturday) @ 2pm. Our Poetry Event will commence with Echezonachukwu Nduka & Marya Parral both will be here taking turn doing readings, and afterwards discussions. Light refreshment will be available. Mr. Nduka’s book Chrysanthemums for Wide-Eyed Ghost will be available for purchase.

Food Bank Collection :
Thank you, to those who have helped our food bank collection. The products will be delivered to a local Food bank. Thank you for helping families in need.

Spring Mahjong Lessons:

News Event:
It’s been a quiet cold winter.   We continue to take donations throughout the year, we just want to thank you all for your generosity. 
Also to note, we have something in the works to be on the lookout for a Poetry Night event with Echezonachukwu Nduka & Marya Parral  is happening in May 2019, more details to come. 

Food Bank Collection:
Thank you for all your donations.  We will continue to collect until the end of this Month.  Then it will be delivered to a Local Food Bank.

Spring is in the air:
It’s time for the sun to shine upon us longer.  Daylight Savings time is Sunday, March 10th.  Don’t forget to “Spring Forward”.   First Day of Spring is Tuesday, March 20th.   Keep in Mind to note Easter is very late this year April 21st

February Schedule:

Food Bank Collection:
During January and February the library will be a collection point for donations for our area food banks. If you have any non-perishables that you would like to donate, please stop in.

Winter Challenges
Despite the cold and the snow, we’re open. If you need to get out of the house (even for just a few minutes), stop in. The library is bright and warm and cheerful. We’ve got books, magazines and the daily newspaper to browse. You could even listen to some music.

Food Collection Box

We are having a 50% off sale on our Long sleeve Shirts. Normally priced at $15; we are selling them for $7.50 ~Limited in size availability, stop in while supplies last!

Christmas - Crafts 
At our Makerspace Table this month, we will feature several special holiday crafts. Children can make a reindeer or Christmas tree ornament out of popsicle sticks or a candy cane ornament using beads.

We are continuing our annual tradition – books under the tree! What better present than a book! Come in and choose one for you or a friend.

Used Book Sale

End of Summer Recap:
We had Storytime and Lego Club all summer, sadly we hardly had anyone to read to or play legos with.  J Remember us next Summer we have it Tuesday’s.  
Our Summer Family activities are always so much fun, and you guys make it special. 
Family Scavenger Hunt (10 attended).  We had 1 huge family breakup into 3 groups.  It was a good time. Next year, lookout we will have a whole new list and hopefully other families to challenge. 
Family Bingo Night (3 attended) However, there were several games played and lots of prizes.
Mahjong – was also played here a few Thursday (Late) evenings.
