News from Upper Township Committee Meeting:Beach Replenishment Approved for Fall:
Once the birds have left in October, 400,000 cubic yards of sand will be dredged onto the beach from Corson’s Inlet down to Winthrop, according to Twp. Engineer Paul Dietrich. The dredge will do work in Ocean City, Strathmere and Sea Isle. It is not definite which borrow site will be used at this time; the Army Corps, with the contractor, will make the final decision as the time nears.

Strathmere United Methodist Church Needs Your Help
Church trustees are launching a major fundraising campaign to replace its "beyond repair" organ. A reconditioned one has been located and will cost $16,000. More details to follow, but if you can, please mail a check to SUMC, Box 93, STM 08248 to help defray the costs. Regardless of your religious preference, SUMC has been  home to countless concerts, funeral and memorial services, hymn sings and Sunday services.  It's "the town's" church.

In late fall,  the SIA made a donation of $500.00 to help defray some of the costs of the winter season. Here's hoping you'll  be able to offer financial support, too.

Inaugural Bike Ride/Run/Walk Down Commonwealth!
Saturday, July 6, 2019. 8 am, near the turtle sign
Lace up your sneakers and join the inaugural Commonwealth bike/run/walk down Commonwealth’s new pedestrian/recreation lane. . Gather with your neighbors and friends at the turtle sign near the trailer park for an 8 am picture, and then cyclists take off, followed by runners and walkers. We’ll head down to the new parking area near the paint chips in SIC (or as far as you’d like to go) and back.
The Commonwealth re-striping has been years in the making and has created a safe recreation corridor, with parking limited to the east/beach side of the road.  The County created 200 new parking places (replacing the approx. 190 lost on the bay side) near the paint chips. Sea Isle is waiving beach fees in that area. The committee members below have long advocated for a solution to the dangerous conditions on Commonwealth,  and worked with County Freeholder Will Morey, with community input, to seek a solution. Thanks to the members and their organizations for their advocacy.

Ahoy SIA Members!
Join with fellow Strathmere Improvement Association members on a boat ride along the historic Strathmere Bay front with special guest host Ed Andress.
We’ve chartered the Avalon Lady, a 45’ pontoon boat for Sunday evening, July 14, from 6-8 pm. We’re offering 20 minute trips (leaving every half hour), making a loop down to the Deauville and back to our Sumner Avenue starting point. (Unfortunately, children under 5 are not permitted onboard.)
Along the way, Ed will regale us with tales of days gone by, you’ll see the familiar houses from the bayside view, and feel the breeze that only a boat ride can deliver.
We’ll gather at the street end of Sumner and the Bay, and thanks to the generosity of Ed and Becky Grasavage, board from their dock. Please arrive15 minutes early and kindly try to keep your group size small so that everyone has an opportunity to cruise. The boat seats 30 folks with four departures every half hour. Ticket price to help underwrite costs is $5.00 per person to help defray insurance and charter costs. The balance will be paid from our treasury’s dues, fundraising efforts and generous donations.
Seating is limited and pre-registration for active, dues paying SIA members is open until July 4; then it will open to other Strathmere residents and visitors.
Reservations can only be made by email, followed by receipt of the payment form available on the SIA website. First emails received, first served. sia1912@comcast.net and then please fill out and mail the form and a check to: SIA, Box 4, STM, 08248.
Food and Drinks/Alcohol are NOT allowed on the Lady Avalon!
