To All Strathmere
and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,
With the Centennial (and many other) events, it
has been a busy summer, such that these newsletters have focused on upcoming
events and for the most part have not had time to showcase what has already
happened.
We want to provide you with the results of the
Nightmare in Strathmere Boat Parade, sponsored by the Strathmere Fishing and Environmental Club.
The three winners are shown in this
newsletter, and many more pictures are available on the SFEC
website here.
We do not have pictures of all of the decorated
docks or of the houses off the bay. If you have any, please send them to sia6@comcast.net
+++++++
Randy and Ronnie Roash were the Grand
Marshalls of this year's parade:
First place among the boats was taken by the
Dougherty Family – “The Most Interesting Men Come to
Strathmere”
First place for Houses on the Bay (Docks) went to
the Jankowskis for "Strathmere Synchronized Sipping
Team"
and First Place for Houses Off the Bay went to
the Diamonds for "“Zombie Summer Book Club”
Much fun was had by all! Our thanks to the SFEC
for this great event!

The Citizens for Strathmere and Whale
Beach will hold a meeting this Saturday, September 8, at 10 am on the second
floor of the Firehouse.
As usual, all are welcome to attend - not just
CFSWB members...

The SIA will hold our September Meeting
on Friday evening, September 14, at 8:00 pm.

On Wednesday, October 24, at 6:00
pm at the Firehouse, the US Postal Service will hold a
meeting to discuss the future of mail service in
Strathmere.
As you know, the growth of internet shopping and
video calls and the explosive growth of e-mail have combined to dramatically
reduce the quantity of and revenues from First-Class mail. Congress has also
required the USPS to do what no private business or government entity is
required to do: pre-pay for future retirees' health care.
This combination has caused the USPS to run
deficits such that they must make widespread reductions in cost and service.
Small offices like Strathmere are among the targets.
A survey will be sent to Strathmere postal
patrons, probably next week, asking for your "preferences" with regard to mail
service.
Some "preferences" offered might be:
- shorter hours (or fewer days)
- unattended service (open lobby with access to
boxes)
- home delivery
etc., etc.
Note that if you select "home delivery", you
could possibly be voting to close the Strathmere Post Office (after 100 years)
and move its functions to Sea Isle City.
The results of the survey will be used for the
discussion on October 24 - and could be used to actually make decisions
regarding our post office...

Have you paid your SIA Dues for
2012?
The Strathmere Improvement Association includes
all owners in Strathmere and Whale Beach and many visitors. It was founded over
60 years ago as a community organization with the simple objective of making
Strathmere a better place. We are proud of the organization's many
accomplishments over the years.
The annual dues are
$10 per adult family member. The dues and the fund raisers
provide for the Fourth of July Parade and our share of the Christmas Party.
We also donate money to help pay for extra State Police protection. This year we
invested in the Centennial Banners and the Historic Trolley
Rides...
NOTE: Since most of you
never formally "signed up" as members, obviously we cannot "force" you to pay
dues, which are really more like (non-deductible) donations anyway.
If you don't pay, we will still keep you on
our newsletter distribution. The only penalty will be that you can't vote in our
(mostly uncontested) elections!
Nevertheless, we really hope you see
enough value in our projects and enjoy the newsletters enough so that you'll
contribute $10 per adult family member.
Thanks!
Please send dues payments to
SIA at PO Box 57, Strathmere, NJ 08248. Remember to tell us
your correct e-mail address!
Also, please let us know if you have comments
or suggestions for the newsletter or for SIA in general, or if you'd like us to
change your e-mail address in our records.
You can contact us by responding to this e-mail
at sia6@comcast.net or by mailing SIA at PO Box 57.
