SIA Newsletter 9 12 2012 - SIA Meeting with Twp Engineer on Friday; Schiavo Book Sale; Kids' Surf Tourney

To All Strathmere and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,

The Strathmere Improvement Association will hold its final meeting of the year this Friday Evening at the Firehouse at 8:00 pm.
We'll be voting on a Bylaws change to reduce the number of general meetings to just two per year.

Our speaker Friday is Paul Dietrich, Upper Township Engineer. Paul will discuss projects for Strathmere and answer your questions.
We had planned a program on how to winterize / close your Strathmere home, and made a last-minute change. We appreciate Paul's flexibility and willingness to speak on such short notice.

The Schiavo Library is now holding its fourth annual end of summer book sale (through September 22).

The library is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00- 4:00 pm.

There are lots of books for everyone – including novels, nonfiction, paperbacks and children’s books. Some VHS tapes and DVDs will also be sold.

All books and media are very reasonably priced ($.25 to $1.00). Everyone is welcome to stop in and shop!

For more information call the library at (609) 486-6265 or email

On Saturday, September 1, the SFEC held their annual Kids' Surf Fishing Tournament.
We hope you got down to watch at least part of it - it's always as much fun for the audience as for the 169 kids who participated.
Here are a few pictures of the tournament and the winners of fishing rods - check out many more pictures on the SFEC website here.

The SFEC "Legends" Reef Tournament scheduled for this Saturday, September 15, will not be held.
Remember that on Wednesday, October 24, at 6:00 pm at the Firehouse, the US Postal Service will hold a meeting to discuss the future of mail service in Strathmere.

Have you paid your SIA Dues for 2012?
The Strathmere Improvement Association includes all owners in Strathmere and Whale Beach and many visitors. It was founded over 60 years ago as a community organization with the simple objective of making Strathmere a better place. We are proud of the organization's many accomplishments over the years.

The annual dues are $10 per adult family member. The dues and the fund raisers provide for the Fourth of July Parade and our share of the Christmas Party. We also donate money to help pay for extra State Police protection. This year we invested in the Centennial Banners and the Historic Trolley Rides...

NOTE: Since most of you never formally "signed up" as members, obviously we cannot "force" you to pay dues, which are really more like (non-deductible) donations anyway.
If you don't pay, we will still keep you on our newsletter distribution. The only penalty will be that you can't vote in our (mostly uncontested) elections!
Nevertheless, we really hope you see enough value in our projects and enjoy the newsletters enough so that you'll contribute $10 per adult family member.

Please send dues payments to SIA at PO Box 57, Strathmere, NJ 08248. Remember to tell us your correct e-mail address!
Also, please let us know if you have comments or suggestions for the newsletter or for SIA in general, or if you'd like us to change your e-mail address in our records.

You can contact us by responding to this e-mail at or by mailing SIA at PO Box 57.

Celebrate Our Strathmere Centennial!

1912 - 2012

Thanks very much for your continuing support of the Strathmere Improvement Association!
