Our SIA July Meeting was held on Friday evening.
We had a great crowd to hear Herb Hollinger and other speakers talk about Sandy recovery strategies and prevention measures for future storms.

In addition to Herb, our speakers were Bryan Coons, of BZB's Handyman Service,
Dan Barry of Northstar Restoration Services and Mike Minchelli of Citizens Public Adjusters.
All were extremely interesting and contributed greatly to our knowledge.

Here are Mike, Herb, Dan and Bryan.

We held the drawing for the Phillies tickets; Bob Whitelaw and Andy Field were our winners.
Following the meeting folks enjoyed the wine and cheese and had a chance to ask further questions of our speakers.

A very enjoyable evening. Our second 2013 Meeting will be held on Friday evening, August 9.

Guess we'll be seeing more of this. House movers have raised this home (condominiums) at Commonwealth and Seacliff.

Some of us remember when this was "Brownie's" house - Merrit Othello Brown was a Coast Guardsman and then Strathmere's "Constable"...

On July 18, 2013 the Schiavo Library will be hosting a Wetlands Institute program “Traveling Turtles.”
The program is sponsored jointly by the Library and the Strathmere Fishing and Environmental Club.
It will take place at 6:00pm in the library’s parking lot. This will be followed by a terrapin release at the boat ramp. This is a wonderful program for the whole family and all are welcome to attend. It was a huge hit last year!

The CFSWB Auction previously scheduled for July 27 has been canceled for this year.

Mark your calendar for Saturday evening, August 3. The SIA is planning a Strathmere Community Beach Bash (games and music) for all.
It will be held on the beach between Sumner and Tecumseh from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
Old-fashioned children's games (bring a flashlight for the ghost crab hunt) with prizes for the kids!

Our February 11, 2013 Newsletter on flood zones and flood insurance has been posted on the Upper Township website here (under General Information... Announcements... Super Storm Sandy). We suggest you make the website location one of your "favorites" or "bookmarks", as you'll probably want to refer to it as the BFE / FIRM saga continues to unfold...

The Strathmere Improvement Association includes all owners in Strathmere and Whale Beach and many visitors. It was founded in 1951 as a community organization with the simple objective of making Strathmere a better place. We are proud of the organization's many accomplishments over the years.

The SIA is keeping the annual dues at $10 per adult family member. The dues and the fund raisers provide for the Fourth of July Parade and our share of the Christmas Party. We conducted a number of Centennial events last year, and also donated money to help pay for extra State Police protection, and to residents affected by Sandy.

NOTE: Since most of you never formally "signed up" as members, obviously we cannot "force" you to pay dues, which are really more like (non-deductible) donations anyway.
If you don't pay, we will still keep you on our newsletter distribution. The only penalty will be that you can't vote in our (mostly uncontested) elections!
Nevertheless, we really hope you see value in our projects and enjoy the newsletters enough so that you'll contribute $10 per adult family member.

Thanks!

Please send dues payments to SIA at PO Box 57, Strathmere, NJ 08248. Remember to tell us your correct e-mail address!

Also, please let us know if you have comments or suggestions for the newsletter or for SIA in general, or if you'd like us to change your e-mail address in our records.

You can contact us by responding to this e-mail at sia6@comcast.net or by mailing SIA at PO Box 57.
