To All Strathmere and Whale Beach Homeowners and
Visitors,
The next three Saturdays each have an event that Strathmerians eagerly look forward to:
*August 16: The UTBP Kayak
Festival
*August 23: The SFEC Nightmare in
Strathmere Boat
Parade
*August 30: The SFEC Kids’ Surf
Tournament
And then – Labor Day will come and go and for
many, it will be back to school and work and Strathmere will fade away like
Brigadoon...
*************************************************
This Saturday, the lifeguards will
hold their annual Kayak
Festival.
It will begin with a 5K run at 8:00 am,
continuing with races beginning at
10:30.
As noted below, registration will be at the
Station at Williams Road, but the events will be at the Vincent Road
Beach.
To help publicize the event, the
Weather Team from Channel 6 will be at the Vincent Road beach tomorrow
(Thursday), setting up around 2:30
pm.
They will broadcast live for two shows, the
last being around 6:20
pm.
They’d appreciate a large crowd, so
come on down and get on the evening
news!
**********************************************
Also tomorrow, at 6:00 pm,
the Parish of Saint Maximilian Kolbe in Marmora will conduct a mass on
the Willard Road beach to celebrate the Feast Day of their patron
saint.
There will be entertainment beginning at 5:00
pm.
********************************
On Saturday, August 23, the
SFEC will hold the annual Nightmare in Strathmere boat
parade.
The Boat Parade will begin at 6:30; awards and
the raffle will be at the Deauville Beach House at 9:00
pm.
This is their biggest fund raiser of the year,
and allows them to conduct such things as the Turtle Release and the Kids’ Surf
Fishing
Tournament.
Please support them by buying raffle
tickets and tee shirts (available at Bayview and Putnam and at Twisties on the
23rd).
Nightmare is not just for folks on the bay! If
you have a theme you couldn’t use in the rain on July 4, use it to decorate your
house for
Nightmare!
Plaques will be awarded in three categories:
Boats, Houses on the Bay and Houses off the
Bay.
****************************************************************
The following Saturday, August
30 (Labor Day Weekend), the SFEC will hold its annual Kids’
Surf Fishing
Tournament.
It’s on the Putnam Street Beach from 9:00 am
to 11:00 am and it is
free!
The kids have a ball, and it’s a great
spectator sport
also.
Come on out and
watch.

The SIA Meeting Friday night was quite
interesting.
Ella Diamond showed us how to use the
Automated External Defibrillator (AED), recently donated to the Strathmere
Volunteer Fire
Company.
In the previous week, it had already been used
to save a life in
Strathmere.
Following the meeting, Ted Kingston, Mike
McNally and Rachel Burcaw displayed their photographs and gave us tips on how to
take better
pictures.
**************************************************************************
On Saturday, the SIA held their Family
Beach
Party.
Jim Maher again displayed his
versatility, playing music everyone
enjoyed.
*********************************************
Between the SIA Meeting and the Beach Party, we sold out
of our snowy owl suncatchers. Our thanks to all who purchased them!
*****************************************************
Following the beach party, Ella’s Castaway
Lounge held its third and final concert of the season, featuring singer
/ songwriter Matthew Foster Moore. Super music, and another big crowd on Bayview Drive! Thanks Ella!
The Upper Township 9 – 10 year old Little League team finished
their run in Rhode Island by winning the Regional Championship! Congratulations, Champs!
That’s as far as they can go – only the 11 –12 year olds have a
national championship (in Williamsport). Coverage is in the Press of AC here.
*******************************************************************************
Last week we showed pictures of the dangerous condition at the
entrance to the State Park (the Point) on Commonwealth extended. This week the State closed it off.
You can access the Point at Seacliff or beach entrances to the
south (except at high tide).
Remember to follow and "like" the SIA (click the
"Thumbs Up" box ) on our
Facebook Page.

The
Strathmere Improvement Association invites all owners, renters and vacationers
in Strathmere and Whale Beach to join as dues paying members. The SIA
was founded in 1951 as a community organization with the simple objective of
making Strathmere a better place. We work to preserve our town’s “hometown
feeling” and to keep lines of communication open within town, and with local
government.
We are proud of the organization's many accomplishments over the years,
including sponsorship of 2012 Centennial activities, taking on a key organizing
and leadership role in Strathmere and Whale Beach relief efforts after Sandy,
and hosting an annual community beach party and concert. Additionally, the July
and August SIA meetings feature programs of interest to vacationers and
homeowners.
Your dues allow us to
continue to co-sponsor the Christmas Party and the Fourth of July Parade, as
well as the above mentioned activities.
Once again, we are
keeping annual dues to $10 per adult family member.
Please send your dues payments to
SIA at PO Box 57, Strathmere, NJ 08248. Remember to tell us
your correct e-mail address!
Also, please let us know if you have comments or suggestions for
the newsletter or for SIA in general, or if you'd like us to change your e-mail
address in our records.
You can contact us by responding to this e-mail at strathmere1912@gmail.com or by mailing SIA at PO Box 57.

Thanks very much for your continuing support of the Strathmere
