SIA Newsletter 8/21/14: Nightmare on Saturday; Kids' Surf Tourney Next Weekend; SVFC BBQ August 28

To All Strathmere and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,

As reported last week, this Saturday, August 23, the SFEC will hold the annual Nightmare in Strathmere boat parade.
The Boat Parade will begin at 6:30; awards and the raffle will be at the Deauville Beach House at 9:00 pm.
This is the SFEC’s biggest fund raiser of the year, and allows them to conduct such things as the Turtle Release and the Kids’ Surf Fishing Tournament.
Please support them by buying raffle tickets and tee shirts (available at Bayview and Putnam and at Twisties, beginning at noon on the 23rd).

Nightmare is not just for folks on the bay! If you have a theme you couldn’t use in the rain on July 4, use it to decorate your house for Nightmare!
Plaques will be awarded in three categories: Boats, Houses on the Bay and Houses off the Bay.
Registration is at Herb Hollinger’s house at Bayview and Putnam from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday.
All who register will receive a 2014 Nightmare Coffee Mug – a collector’s item.
Please participate – Nightmare won’t be successful unless we get lots of entries!

Come out to a friend’s dock, a street end or the playground and enjoy the parade!

The following Saturday, August 30 (Labor Day Weekend), the SFEC will hold its 11th Annual Kids’ Surf Fishing Tournament.

It’s on the Prescott Street Beach from 9:00 am to 11:00 am (registration is at 7:30 am) and it is free!
This a catch & release tournament and is open to all kids 17 years old and younger (adults must accompany children under 12 years old).

Please bring your own rod, reel, and equipment. Do not use round / drop weights – please use only pyramid weights! Registered children will receive free bait, tee shirt (while supplies last), hot dogs, & drinks.

If you would like to make a donation, please bring a non-perishable food item. The SFEC will collect items for the Upper Township Food Bank located at the Church of the Resurrection in Marmora. This is a great cause and is a non-denominational effort to support those in need.

The kids always have a ball, and it’s a great spectator sport also.
Come on out and watch.

On Thursday the 28th, the Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company will hold a Barbecue Dinner at the Deauville Beach House, beginning at 6:00 pm.

This is a fund raiser for the Fire Company, so come to the Deauville and support them!

The Strathmere Improvement Association invites all owners, renters and vacationers in Strathmere and Whale Beach to join as dues paying members. The SIA was founded in 1951 as a community organization with the simple objective of making Strathmere a better place. We work to preserve our town’s “hometown feeling” and to keep lines of communication open within town, and with local government.

We are proud of the organization's many accomplishments over the years, including sponsorship of 2012 Centennial activities, taking on a key organizing and leadership role in Strathmere and Whale Beach relief efforts after Sandy, and hosting an annual community beach party and concert. Additionally, the July and August SIA meetings feature programs of interest to vacationers and homeowners.

Your dues allow us to continue to co-sponsor the Christmas Party and the Fourth of July Parade, as well as the above mentioned activities.

Once again, we are keeping annual dues to $10 per adult family member. Please send your dues payments to SIA at PO Box 57, Strathmere, NJ 08248. Remember to tell us your correct e-mail address!
Also, please let us know if you have comments or suggestions for the newsletter or for SIA in general, or if you'd like us to change your e-mail address in our records.

You can contact us by responding to this e-mail at sia1912@comcast.net or by mailing SIA at PO Box 57.
