November 9, 2018

In this issue:
Veterans Day; Planning Board Meeting; Tom Leonard Memorial Reminder & RSVP for Christmas Party

Thanks to Greg Bennett for this spectacular shot taken earlier in the week.

1. Veterans Day, Monday, November 12. We thank all who are serving or have served our country. There are several observances in Cape May County, Sea Isle and Osprey, in particular. Here's a link for more info:

. Planning Board Meeting to Hear Request from La FontanaHere's the agenda listing from the first introduction at the Oct. 18 Planning Board Meeting:

"Applicants are requesting preliminary and final site plan approval and variances for impervious coverage and number of parking spaces at LaFontana Restaurant, 1 S. Commonwealth Avenue in Strathmere."
LaFontana’s owners are asking to eliminate their parking along Commonwealth in order to install a new septic system in its place. It would increase the impervious surface and eliminate seven parking spaces in front of the restaurant. A new septic would, therefore, allow an increase in the number of tables allowed at the restaurant. It was suggested that a curb would be installed and several parking spaces would be created on the street, next to the Firehouse driveway. Currently, there is no on street parking allowed on either side of Commonwealth in front of LaFontana.

At the October 18 Planning Board meeting, several Strathmere homeowners spoke against approval of the request. Because of the late hour, the issue was tabled and will be continued this Thursday,  November 15, 7:30 pm, in Township Hall, Petersburg. If you cannot attend, you can find email information on the Township website for the Mayor and Committeemen:  /

3. Tom Leonard Strathmere Memorial Info: Tommy Leonard's Strathmere sendoff is next Saturday, November 17, at 11 am in the Strathmere United Methodist Church. The family invites everyone to a luncheon immediately following in the Fire Hall.

4. Less than a Month to Go for the Christmas Party: Please RSVP so that Santa's Helper knows how many gifts we'll need for our little ones. You can pay at the door, but we need a count for the Deauville.
