New Water Mains
NJ American Water has been replacing “5,300 feet of aging 2, 3 and 6 “ main, installed in the early 1900s” on the beach blocks of Willard, Whittier, Webster, Vincent, Tecumseh, Sumner, Sherman, Randolph, Putnam, Prescott and Commonwealth (between Vincent and Willard). As of this newsletter, the majority of the work has been with the main pipes down the street.
It’s been a muddy time, with minor detours, but the streets have been torn up and patched with temporary asphalt. About six months after final completion of the water work, the company will return and do a final asphalt patch.  The entire street will not be resurfaced.
The water company continues to test the water, but if you have any questions or want project updates, please call them: 800 272-1325 or 800 652-6987.

County Resurfacing on Commonwealth Begins
As previewed at a public meeting last summer, the County has begun resurfacing Commonwealth, starting at the Sea Isle border north to Prescott, finishing in June. In mid September, work will begin again to from Prescott to the Corson’s Inlet Bridge. Lane closures during the workday are to be expected, but weekends and after 3:30 pm no construction is planned and both lanes should be open.
A detailed letter from County Engineer Dale Foster has been sent to homeowners with information about what the $3.246,000 project encompasses. The complete letter can be viewed on our website: strathmereimprovementassociation.org.  More info on curbs, drainage and gutters, plus a five year road opening moratorium is included within.Read the Gazette story: http://www.shorenewstoday.com/upper_township/commonwealth-ave-resurfacing-project-starts-in-strathmere/article_ec9a8f8e-ead3-11e5-a883-6f034d62b358.html

Dredging wrapping up
It looks as if the beach dredging is just about finished. Before the project could be completed Jonas hit and then another smaller storm rolled in, resulting in a loss of sand and much scarping. Township Engineer Paul Dietrich said, “They (dredging company) came back and we never want to turn down free sand.” So, the beeping sounds of the equipment at work, the nighttime “Broadway” lights and Cyclops roaming the water’s edge have kept us company all winter.

Other Township Tidbits:
Paul Dietrich said, “The Township anticipates introducing a bond ordinance to do capital improvements which include replacement of the play structure and bulkhead at Webster Ave. and extension of the outfall at Seacliff Ave.
We will also be working on converting some of the timber walkover structures to the wide gravel beach access paths.  The ends of the existing paths were cleaned up this week.  We will start bringing trash & recycling cans to street ends over the next several weeks.
Williams and Putnam will have the same mats for easier beach access as last year, Dietrich added.

There are still docks and other debris around town from Jonas. Please try to come take a look to see what you're missing!
