Beach erosion on Seaview and Seacliff

The ocean is rough out there today. The erosion at Seaview is terrible. That entrance had been closed for a few weeks already. Now the dune is washing out, including beach fencing and poles. That's at least an 8 foot wall there which used to be a dune.
The entrance at Seacliff should also be closed because there is about a 3 foot drop there.

The waves are wild out there today. This is the ocean side of the Point, just north of Seaview. You shouldn't try to walk out there, the waves are right up to the dune at Seaview, pulling out fencing and posts and tossing them around.

The video below is standing at Seacliff beach entrance.

Strathmere History Videos

In August of 2015, Ken Weaver gave a talk and slideshow of “Early Strathmere History” to the residents of Strathmere. First up below is the actual video of the presentation which features old photos from people in Strathmere and the Strathmere website and a ton of Strathmere history from Ken.

The second video is a “Then and Now” presentation with old images of homes and buildings in Strathmere and what they look like now.

Aerial video from Chopper 6

Here is a video taken this morning 10/31 by ABC Chopper 6 from Sea Isle City to Strathmere. Strathmere starts at about 13:45 at Taylor Ave and Whale Creek Marina

Aerial video of Cape May to Long Beach Island after Hurrican Sandy

This is a 20 minute aerial video taken Tuesday 10/30/12 from Cape May to Long Beach Island. Strathmere starts at about 8:14 and only lasts about 30 seconds, but you can see the houses are still standing, water is out of the streets and our beaches still look fairly good, even the Point. Of course in person the town will look worse, there is a lot of debris and sand clean up to be done.

Strathmere Motel and some beach videos

Let's start with the positive first. In case you didn't hear, the Strathmere Motel sold over the Winter! The new owners took possession and they starting to fix it up and it's already looking better. On the outside, they replaced shingles and painted. They've put in new windows and doors and now they've started painting the trim dark green, along with the new exterior doors.
I don't know if work has started inside yet, but I hear that the plans are to paint the rooms and get new carpet and new beds. The sign in the window says that they plan to be open sometime in May.

Now the not so good. We had a pretty rough storm last night and it washed out more of the ocean side of the point, which had already been gradually washing out since last June .

The first video below is straight out on the Point, looking north and side to side. The bay side has washed out a little, but towards the ocean the point is really starting to wash out in an angle, towards the bay.

When you go out to the beach from Seacliff, the beach is really looking bad. The video below is rough, sorry. It was windy and I couldn't see what I was filming due to the glare on my camera screen. Two guys where out there, they appeared to be fixing or doing something to the split rail fence at the Seaview entrance. The dune there was washed right out from under part of the fence, leaving it hanging in the air. A lot of pilings are showing again, some more than 3 feet. There is about a 4 foot cliff-drop from the dune at Seaview and north from there.

South from this point, the beach and dunes still look good. For now.

Strathmere Video & Point photo 10/21/08

This video and photo are from Christine Adams Grexa, her family owns a home on Neptune.

This photo is really upsetting. One of my favorite things is to drive into Strathmere from Ocean City. There's an area along the road between the fishing bridge and our bridge where the bushes are clear, probably exactly where this photo was taken. I just love catching a glimpse of the Point beach and the houses as I'm driving into town.
That water there now is just very scarey.

Strathmere flood videos

Two super-short vidoes.

This is the inlet, looking north towards OC. This is where the point used to be. Video taken from a backyard on Seaview.

This is from the corner of Neptune and Seaview.

My Doggies at the Beach

On 10/1/08, we took our doggies Boris, aged 7, and Harlow, 4 months, to the beach. It was Harlow's first time on the beach and she had alot of fun running in the water, sniffing shells, watching seagulls. Boris took a much more leisurely walk. It was a little windy, but the water was still very nice.

Please send us your 'Pets in Strathmere' photos!

Here are some videos and photos -

Dolphins in Strathmere

Here is a very cool video sent to us by Chad Hauze.

Chad - My family and I have been visiting Strathmere for
years. Last week my cousin and I found ourselves in the ocean, just
past the inlet on my jet-ski in the midst of a pod of dolphins. I had
a waterproof video camera with me. We followed the dolphins for about
ten minutes before leaving them. They didn't seem bothered by us at
all, in fact some came very close.

Strathmere 4th of July Parade Video

Here is a video of the 2008 4th of July Parade. It's 16 minutes long. Unfortunately videos lose some image quality when you upload them, but it's still pretty good. I need more practice keeping my camera steady though! And I gotta stop laughing while I'm filming too.
