On display in the Strathmere Library Mini Museum

Currently on display in the Strathmere Library's Mini Museum is a small display of vintage swimsuits and accessories and photos of ladies in swimsuits from the beaches of Strathmere. The photos feature swimsuits from the Teens to the 1940s and they are photos that have been shared with the Strathmere website over the years. The swimsuits are from my personal collection (in case you didn't know, I am a vintage clothing dealer and collector) The swimsuits weren't actually worn in Strathmere, they are just an example of the styles of swimsuits worn during the timeframe featured in the photos.  Stop in the lobby of the library and check out the display.

Strathmere 4th of July Parade and other upcoming events

To all Strathmere and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,

Get your floats, wagon, bikes and ideas ready for the Fourth of July Parade!


Since the Fourth, and the parade, falls on a Sunday, service at the Strathmere Church will begin a half-hour earlier (at 9:00) and the parade will start a half-hour later - at 11:00 am.
Registration will be at 10:00 and judging at 10:30. As always, awards and refreshments following the parade will be at the Deauville Inn. Since we had no entries in the coaches and strollers division last year, we've combined that with "mixed walkers". See above for the new categories. Strathmere tee shirts, caps and visors will be available for purchase before and after the parade.

The Strathmere Improvement Association includes all owners and many visitors to Strathmere and Whale Beach. It was founded over 50 years ago as a community organization with the simple objective of making Strathmere a better place. We are proud of the organization's many accomplishments over the years. Our thanks to all who have paid their SIA Dues ($10 annually per adult). The dues and fund raisers provide for distributing the trash regulations, mailing the post cards, funding the Fourth of July Parade, and our share of the Star Party and Christmas Party. In the past, we've also donated money to help pay for extra State Police protection. If you have adult children or relatives (or visitors) who visit Strathmere, please forward this message to them - perhaps they'd like to be members and receive these e-mail messages also.

SIA Community Yard Sale - 6/26 - at the Strathmere Firehouse

To all Strathmere and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,
This Saturday morning, from 8:00 am until noon, the SIA will be sponsoring a "Yard Sale" at the Firehouse! Come on over and find some "shore bargains"!

In addition to finding some treasures on our many tables, enjoy mingling with your neighbors and refreshments for everyone!
We'll also have a table chock full of "Strathmere Stuff" - tee shirts, tote bags, caps and visors.


We still have a few tables not yet spoken for, if you have some goodies that you just don't need anymore...

Beach photos 6/19

The Point and other beaches look like they held up pretty well during the Winter storm season this year. But I noticed within the past few weeks that some erosion is starting on the Point. On the Bay side of the Point, which was the last section to be replenished last year, the water is starting to carve into the Point in front of the homes there. Those exposed piles were covered over during replenishment last year.

The ocean side of the Point looks like it's starting to slope off gradually now.

Walking further south on the ocean side, you can see the ridge where waves are chunking away at the beach more noticeably.

No Dogs - No Fair!

Remember the good old days when you could take your dogs out on the Point year round?
There's a section of the Point and several other areas along the dunes that are roped off for the nesting birds. Yes, they should be roped off, I get that the birds are endangered and they shouldn't be disturbed during their nesting season.
But it would be nice if there was a section of beach in Strathmere where we were allowed to take our dogs. Doggies love the beach and most are very well behaved.

I've seen one of the environmentalist who monitor the birds, telling people to get their dogs off the beach. OK, I guess that's part of their job, to protect the nesting area. But I also saw that environmentalist walk right by two empty water bottles and a plastic cup without picking them up. Aren't those a danger to the birds too? I guess it's not their job to pick up trash on the beach. It's not my job either, and it is kinda gross, but I do it anyway.
