Strathmere Improvement Association Newsletter - Santa needs your help for the Christmas Party!

In this issue: Christmas Party; Help for the Needy; Mother Nature; Free Bridge Toll
The Strathmere Christmas Party, sponsored by the SIA and our Volunteer Fire Company, will be held at 6pm on Saturday, December 11.

Since Santa has to prepare his list for the party, please let us know the name, age and gender of any child (9 or under) who will be attending, so we can help him with that list!
You can simply e-mail sia6@comcast.net  or call Donna Diefenderfer at 609-263-3620.
Thanks for your help - and we'll see you all on December 11!

As you are aware, the Holiday Season this year will be especially tough for many who have been adversely affected by the economy.

The Strathmere Fishing and Environmental Club (SFEC) is having a food drive this Saturday, with donations going to the Community Food Pantry at the Church of the Resurrection in Marmora. If you can donate, please bring non-perishable food items or make a cash donation (make checks out to SFEC - notation: Food Pantry) to the firehouse on Dec. 4th between 2pm and 4pm. Some donation suggestions are: cereal, juice, coffee, pancake mix, syrup, catsup, mustard, mayonaisse, canned fruit, tuna, canned meat, paper towels, dish detergent, personal hygiene items, bar soap or deodorant (all non-perishable items are welcome). Any questions or for local donation pick-up, call Randy Roash at 609-970-2362. When you shop for the weekend, please fill a bag for those more needy! Thanks.

November, 2010 vs. November, 2009
We had a little high water from a storm offshore two weeks ago. These two pictures were both taken on November 12, 2010:

Now contrast those pictures with this one from November 12, 2009 (same day last year)! What a difference one year and a foot or two make!

Unfortunately, the storm(s) have cost us some beach. You can see the erosion in these pictures taken this morning:

But the good news is, the Township had Department of Corrections inmates install snow (dune) fencing from almost to Sea Isle, north to Winthrop:

And if you haven't noticed, the bridge over the Strathmere Bay is now toll-free until next Spring!

Thanks to all for your continuing support! If you never got around to paying your 2010 dues, please take the time to send a check ($10 per adult family member) to SIA at PO Box 57, Strathmere 08248.
It's not deductible, but it will be a big help with our projects like the Christmas party and the Fourth of July parade. We don't dun you individually - we just hope you'll respond to our newsletters.

Thanks to all for your continuing support!
