Schiavo Library: June 2012 Newsletter

Special Summer Programs in June:
* Book Signing & Discussion: June 21 4-7pm. Meet Dorothy McGettigan, author of Bristol Boyz Stomp, an account of her brother’s murder & the family’s subsequent dealings with the justice system.
* Third Anniversary Celebration: the week of June 26. Cupcakes will be available all week; come out and see our new scrapbook detailing the library’s first three years.
* Raffle Drawings: Tickets ($1) are on sale now for two drawings: Phillies tickets (drawing July 13) & Craft Basket (drawing August 17). Proceeds benefit the “Environmental Week” activities.

Strathmere - 100 Years:
For our 100th Year Celebration, Carol Baker has created a beautiful display of photos from early Strathmere. See if you know the location of some of the oldest houses that are still standing. We will also continue to collect anecdotes & memories of Strathmere for our “History Notebook.” Share your story!

Summer Children’s Programs:
Our children’s programs will begin July 10 (as well as our Thursday evening hours). Besides our usual programs, this year we will have 2 additional ones presented by Jess Gabor – “Travel through books” (gr. K-2) and “Art and Books” (gr. 3-5). “Ice Cream for Books” (a summer reading program) will continue again this year and also be available for teens. This summer we are adding a Children’s Coloring Contest and Teen Photo Contest.

Volunteers:
Volunteers are always welcome. If you like to work with children, you can help with our children’s programs. Call the library for more information: (609) 486-6265 or email us at info@strathmerelibrary.org.

Summer Events for Families:
Some great family events are planned for July & August, beginning with two programs during the First Annual Strathmere Environmental Week. The Wetlands “Traveling Turtles” & a terrapin release will take place on July 10 7-8:00pm and the Marine Mammal Stranding Center will do a presentation on July 12 7-8:00pm. (See the additional attachment, our summer brochure, for more info.)

Join us this summer for lots of family fun!
