Access to Strathmere still limited

Attention: open in a new window.

STRATHMERE – Access to Strathmere is only possible through Ocean City, as County Road 619 (Landis Ave. and Commonwealth Ave.) linking Strathmere and Sea Isle City remains closed.
Hurricane Sandy breached the dunes at Whale Beach and flooded Landis Ave. there. When the water receded, three to four feet of sand was left behind. Township and county road crews have been clearing the road since last week.
The storm also damaged Ocean Drive (CR 619) leading to the Townsends Inlet Bridge. Ocean Drive is closed from Fourth Avenue to the bridge in Avalon indefinitely because the roadway was severely damaged and portions of the roadway have washed away.
The only unrestricted access to Sea Isle City is via JFK Boulevard. Sea Isle City remains under a State of Emergency.
