SIA Newsletter 8/26/14: Fire Co. BBQ Thursday; Kids' Surf Tourney Saturday; Nightmare Winners

To All Strathmere and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,

Two events command your attention this week:

Thursday evening, the Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company will hold a fund raiser barbecue at the Deauville Inn Beach Bar, from 6 to 10 pm.

The Fire Company has had an historic level of calls this year, and here’s your chance to show your support.

The regular Thursday evening entertainment will perform for you:
Kenny Jeremiah & Bitter Sweet on the Beach

Then this Saturday, August 30, the SFEC will hold its 11th Annual Kids’ Surf Fishing Tournament.

It’s on the Prescott Street Beach from 9:00 am to 11:00 am (registration is at 7:30 am) and it is free!
This a catch & release tournament and is open to all kids 17 years old and younger (adults must accompany children under 12 years old).
Please bring your own rod, reel, and equipment. Do not use round / drop weights – please use only pyramid weights! Registered children will receive free bait, tee shirt (while supplies last), hot dogs, & drinks.

If you would like to make a donation, please bring a non-perishable food item. The SFEC will collect items for the Upper Township Food Bank located at the Church of the Resurrection in Marmora. This is a great cause and is a non-denominational effort to support those in need.

The kids always have a ball, and it’s a great spectator sport also, so c
ome on out and watch.
There is also a big raffle, open to all – but you must be present to win and choose your prize!

Last Saturday  was the SFEC’s annual Nightmare in Strathmere Boat Parade.

We were honored that the SFEC Board chose Jessica and Ken Weaver as Grand Marshals of the parade.
Unfortunately, the SFEC was, at the last minute, unable to find the traditional Grand Marshal sign for the boat, so they made a banner that left Jessica’s name off.

We still had a great time!

Gary and Boo Seagraves provided our transport.

In our “acceptance speech” at the awards ceremonies, we thanked the SFEC, and especially thanked the Board
for choosing us instead of our popular golden retrievers – Banner and Champ (who had been desperately hoping to be chosen).

Don’t mope, Guys, maybe next year!

++++

There are lots of pictures of Nightmare and announcements of the winners on the SFEC website here.

We still need pictures of decorated homes on and off the bay. If you have any, please send them to either sia1912@comcast.net or sfec@comcast.net

Check back later to see what’s been added.

Thanks!

The Strathmere Improvement Association invites all owners, renters and vacationers in Strathmere and Whale Beach to join as dues paying members. The SIA was founded in 1951 as a community organization with the simple objective of making Strathmere a better place. We work to preserve our town’s “hometown feeling” and to keep lines of communication open within town, and with local government.

We are proud of the organization's many accomplishments over the years, including sponsorship of 2012 Centennial activities, taking on a key organizing and leadership role in Strathmere and Whale Beach relief efforts after Sandy, and hosting an annual community beach party and concert. Additionally, the July and August SIA meetings feature programs of interest to vacationers and homeowners.

Your dues allow us to continue to co-sponsor the Christmas Party and the Fourth of July Parade, as well as the above mentioned activities.

Once again, we are keeping annual dues to $10 per adult family member. Please send your dues payments to SIA at PO Box 57, Strathmere, NJ 08248. Remember to tell us your correct e-mail address!
Also, please let us know if you have comments or suggestions for the newsletter or for SIA in general, or if you'd like us to change your e-mail address in our records.

You can contact us by responding to this e-mail at sia1912@comcast.net or by mailing SIA at PO Box 57.
