To All Strathmere
and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,
We had hoped to make this a Newsletter
reviewing the "Superstorm", with pictures, but that edition will have to
wait...

Here's the latest on the Nor'easter tomorrow, from the Dan Skeldon (Channel 40
Weatherman) Facebook Page:
RAIN: A cold, windswept rain will likely develop by Wednesday
morning, be steadiest in the afternoon and evening, then taper off to showers
Wednesday night, perhaps lingering into early Thursday morning. Rainfall of two
inches is expected along the coast.
WIND: Northeast winds will increase overnight with gusts to 40mph toward sunrise, windiest on the islands. Winds shift to the north later Wednesday and continue to ramp up, with 55-65 mph gusts possible along the shore in the afternoon/evening. Winds shift to the northwest overnight and stay very brisk, but the strongest winds will have passed. Nevertheless, 50 mph gusts still possible through the night.

TIDAL FLOODING: Two rounds
of moderate tidal flooding expected, with the early Wednesday afternoon and
overnight Wednesday high tides. Moderate tidal flooding is expected
with both of these cycles, NOT the major to record levels we saw with Sandy.
However, moderate tidal flooding still has an impact, with streets/yards
flooded, road closures, etc. in the normally susceptible
locations. Obviously any flooding will have a negative impact on Sandy recovery
efforts.
High tide times of concern are:
High tide times of concern are:
Wednesday
afternoon: 1:30 pm; Wednesday night: 2:30 am
Since the full moon occurred during Sandy, we
are fortunately in between the full and new moon right now. So tides are
astronomically lower compared to last week. However, moderate flooding is still
forecast with tidal departures of +2-4 feet expected. And with the persistent
onshore wind...water levels may not recede much between the two high tides of
concern.

High minor or low moderate tidal flooding will mean
Bayview Drive will definitely be flooded from north of Webster to south of
Tecumseh. Two inches of rain could mean flooding on Commonwealth and add to the
tidal flooding. Move your cars accordingly.

The Township Public Works Department, which did
such a wonderful job from Sandy through the weekend, got their communications
wires crossed today and did not pick up the (flooded building) debris and piles
of meadow grass along the streets. They've apologized for this and promise to be
out early Wednesday morning to pick all that up. Let's hope they beat the worst
of the storm...

Strathmere People in
Need
Strathmere has many people who are fairly "well-off', but we also
have folks on low or fixed incomes who struggle to stay in our island paradise
without the added burden of a crippling storm.
We have heard from and spoken with many people who want to know how
they can help those in Strathmere / Whale Beach who are truly in
need.
Spurred on by Dave Townsend and his family, the Strathmere Fishing
and Environmental Club (SFEC) began trying to address this. The SFEC was quickly
joined by the SIA, the Fire Company and the Citizens' Organization. It is
anticipated that these groups will work together quickly to provide a
mechanism to receive donations, identify true need and distribute funds
to deserving Strathmere folks. Stay tuned for more details and we'll let
you know how you can help.
Thanks in advance!
