To All Strathmere and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,

Attached is corrected information on recycling. A few years ago, Upper Township widened their collection policy for plastic containers from the recycling numbers 1 or 2 on them to all containers with recycling numbers from 1 to 7. The attachment to our 3/31/12 newsletter missed that change. We are also attaching the Yard Debris info sent then, which has no changes. We hope you will save them in a folder for when you need them and print copies out for your Strathmere and Whale Beach bulletin board or refrigerator...

If you make it a point to be in town for Nightmare in Strathmere, please note it will be two weekends prior to Labor Day this year.
Last year, Hurricane Irene forced its postponement, which made it the same day as the Kids' Surf Fishing Tournament. To avoid that happening again, the Board of the SFEC, which sponsors Nightmare, moved this year's date to August 18. Mark your calendars now!

If you are a US Military Veteran with a primary residence in Cape May County, the County is offering a special Veteran's ID Card for you to secure many discounts offered by stores, restaurants and service providers. Information on the program is here. You can get your card at the County Clerk's Office in Cape May Courthouse, and this Saturday, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm, there will be a Veterans' Open House at the American Legion Post 524, 3304 Bay Avenue in Ocean City, where you can get your card and other info for veterans. Just bring your driver's license and DD-214 or Honorable Discharge papers. A list of discounts can be found here, and the list continues to grow. Very nice!

If you or your family go 'way back in Strathmere, or even you don't, you may be interested in data now available from the 1940 Census. You can find the Strathmere pages, 24 to 27 of the Upper Township info, here. We recommend you set the "View, Zoom" feature on your browser to 50% to see the most of the pages (although if you do that, it's hard to see the "Next" or "Prev" page selection in the upper right hand corner).

The Strathmere Fishing and Environmental Club (SFEC), will be having their April Meeting at the Firehouse this Saturday at 4:00 pm.

Celebrate Our Strathmere Centennial!  1912 - 2012
