Passing of Strathmere Resident Doris Rex Schutte

To All Strathmere and Whale Beach Homeowners and Visitors,
 
 
Doris Rex Schutte, age 90 of 18 Sumner Road, Strathmere and West Chester, PA, died on September 15, 2014. She was the wife of the late Richard W. Schutte, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. She is survived by her son Richard (wife Drucilla) Rex Schutte.

Doris and Dick purchased the Strathmere cottage in October of 1969 and loved spending extended summers in Strathmere. She would be seen walking the beach early in the morning, returning with beach finds.

Doris was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Colonial Dames, and Daughters of 1812.  She worked as a nurse on the mainland at the nusing home in Ocean View. She was involved in storm related evacuations of Strathmere. She had many fond memories of family gatherings, 4th of July Parades, Nightmare's in Strathmere, and walking everywhere in town.

In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, Doris is survived by her grandchildren; Lisa, Greg, Brian, and Dana, her great-grandchildren; Dean, Sean, Maiden, Chloe, and Mia, brothers; Richard and Robert Rex and daughter-in-law Wanda. She was preceded in death by her son Mark, daughter Lisa and sister Anne. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service was held on September 20 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 730 S. New Street, West Chester PA 19382.
